Founder's Project

Following 20 seasons of supporting next generation playwrights, our Founder Angelina Fiordellisi is drawing inspiration from her peers with the Founder’s Project by presenting plays and collaborating with seasoned artists.

By dedicating resources to this initiative, we embrace community members who, over the course of their professional lives, helped shape Off-Broadway. These mature theater-makers have contributed their genius to the American stage--and still have much to share--but find fewer substantial opportunities due to ageism.

In 2016 for its inaugural season, the Founder's Project presented Out of the Mouths of Babes by veteran playwright Israel Horovitz and featuring renowned artists Judith Ivey and Estelle Parsons. In a co-production with La Femme Theatre Productions, Cherry Lane presented its second Founder's Project, Horton Foote's The Traveling Lady in 2017. Our third Founder's Project in 2018 presented First Love by legendary playwright Charles Mee featuring the veteran pairing Michael O'Keefe and Angelina Fiordellisi. Our most recent production was Actually, We’re F*cked by playwright, Matt Williams.
